NCET, Northern Nevada’s largest member-supported non-profit that provide educational and networking events to help people explore businesses and technology, announced their full slate of January informational and networking events to kick off the new year. All Carson City professionals are invited.

Nominations will open for the annual NCET Tech Awards on Thursday, January 18. Now in its 15th year, the NCET Tech Awards celebrate the Northern Nevada individuals and companies who have greatly enhanced the growth and prestige of the technology community. Key awards provided include Technologist of the Year, Medical/Health Services Company of the Year, Educator of the Year and Tech Advocates. All nominations are due by midnight on Friday, February 18. NCET will publicly announce the winners of the Tech Awards on Friday, February 18, and all winners will be honored at the NCET Awards Gala and Technology Showcase on Thursday, April 7 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

NCET‘s Tech Wednesdays take you behind the scenes each month to a local company or organization that makes or uses innovative technologies. On Wednesday, January 12 from 3 – 5 p.m., chocolate confection company Kimmie Candy will take attendees through their thriving state-of-the-art candy production facility. Guests will experience and learn about Kimmie Candy’s newly-remodeled retail area, how the candy is made and packaged in the factory, and how the company started. As an added bonus, attendees will get to visit the candy tasting bar stocked with new products. Tickets are $20 for NCET members and $30 for non-members, and advanced reservation is required. More information can be found at: https://www.ncet.org/ncet-event-calendar/kimmie-candy.

NCET’s Biz Cafés feature local thought leaders that present informational talks on a wide variety of topics, from soft skills to hard science. The December Biz Café event features Ira Gostin, an entrepreneur, strategic communicator and marketing expert. Gostin will teach attendees how to “Be Your Company’s Chief Storyteller.” You will learn about why your business needs its own story, why a good company story works to increase business, and how you can make changes in your marketing pitch right now. He will also help guests prepare their own ready-to-use elevator pitch to bring home with them. This event will take place at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on Wednesday, January 19 from 2 – 4 pm. Admission is free of charge with advanced registration at: https://www.ncet.org/ncet-event-calendar/chief-storyteller.

NCET’s Biz Bites are luncheons with individual speakers or panels that provide actionable business or technology information that you can implement within your business. This month’s Biz Bite will welcome Frank Haxton and Becky Murway, owners of Digiman Studio – a Reno-Tahoe based award-winning photography and videography studio. Haxton and Murway will discuss the importance of using all the visual tools at your disposal to showcase your business in 2022. They will teach attendees how to polish their visual online identity, how to create better-looking videos, when and where to post your content, and what easily-accessible tools are available to push a brand visually. This month’s Biz Bite will commence at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on Wednesday, January 26 from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Please note the new prices of admission as of the new year are $39 for NCET members at $49 for general admission to reflect the increase cost of lunches provided at the Convention Center.
